Staging Your Build

When designing and building your tuner a good idea is to stage your build, because most of us don't have $25,000 to $50,000 on hand to spend on a build. Planning out and staging your build allows you to decide what modifications and upgrades that you'll make first while saving for the next upgrade. For example, you may decide that you want to install a bodykit with a custom paint job first, and have a slick looking ride while you save up for the engine modifications. Though racing enthusiasts may start with purchasing and installing a new motor, that way they have a souped up, fast car to drive while they prepare to make any upgrades to the body.

Its important to stage your build, so that you have a clear understanding and idea of where you are headed.

When you start staging your build be sure to write everything down, its best to be specific when planning everything out. For example:

Stage 1 - The Body ($7439.67 Estimated Cost)

     - Body Kit, $851.74  Available at Shophyperformance.com
     - New Rims 19", $925.95 Available at Tirerack.com
     - Tires 245/50ZR19, $661.98 Available at Local Firestone Tire Retailer (Match for 19" Rims)
     - Custom Paint Job, $5000.00, Available at CCP (Custom Car Paint)

When writing out your build estimation, include what items, prices and where you'll be purchasing them. This first stage is an expensive one at almost $7500, When collecting prices try and obtain written estimates from store, this way you have written proof of cost. You would hate if a sales associete qouted you $4000 for a paint job, and then when you go in find out that it will cost you $6000.

Stage 2 - Brake System Modification ($2150.00 Estimated Cost)

     - 16" Rotors cross drilled and slotted, $600.00, available at SummitRacing.com
     - Brembo Big brake Kit w/ Dual piston Calipers, $1200.00, available at local performance parts store
     - Steel Braided Brake Hoses, $100.00, available at summitracing.com
     - Larger brake booster and Master Cylinder, $250.00 , available at local performance parts store

The Brake upgrade estimation above is a clear example of why you should write out and stage your build, because some modifications are required when modifying other systems, Notice that when we upgrade the brake rotors and calipers on the car, we upgrade the Brake booster and master cylinder, This is because the stock booster and master cylinder do not supply enough power to effectivly utilize the larger 16" Brakes.

Staging your build, along with collecting estimates and expenses will help you calculate exactly how long it will take you to reach your completed project. Though we all know that there is really no end to the amount of modifications and upgrades that can be done.
